How to Properly Share the Road with Bicyclists

When it comes to our roads, it is important for drivers and bicyclists to share. As more and more people are choosing to bike as their standard form of transportation, this is more important than ever before. At McDaniel GM Superstore, we would like to share a few things that you can do to help keep everyone in Marion safe.

Do not drive in or park in bike lanes. This will cause bicyclists to have to swerve out into traffic, something that is dangerous for everyone on the road. When you park on the side of the road, check your side mirror before opening your door to ensure you will not hit or block someone on a bicycle.

When driving, watch out for children on bikes. They are smaller and typically harder to see. Also, give bicyclists plenty of space. Even adult drivers may occasionally swerve or act unpredictably due to potholes or other obstacles in the road.
